Virtual Storage
I bet you're tired of having chests for everything, especially when you dedicate a chest for each mod. Or maybe some of your chests are already filling up? Whatever the case, we're now going to be going digital with our storage, courtesy of Applied Energistics.
- Now that our Processors are finished, make
4
Formation Cores and 4
Annihilation Cores.
- Craft an
Illuminated Panel. Illuminated Panels connect to your ME Wire and provide light, but they have to use a little energy to do so. You can attach a
Toggle Bus inside the ME Cable like we did before, to turn off any devices connected to the Cable.
- But Illuminated Panels are primarily used as a crafting ingredient for the
ME Terminal. Craft an ME Terminal. The ME Terminal acts as an interface to access your ME network. When you place items into virtual storage, the physical items are converted from matter to data, and stored on computer hard drives.
Now we need to make the hard drives, but you have your choice of options here. We recommend using the
ME Drive
which holds 10 hard drives. When you insert items into your storage network they will be placed in the first-most drive,
and then the next when the first one fills up. Or if you want items to go into a specific drive you can craft the
ME Chest
which can only hold 1 drive at a time. Best to try both to see how each of them work for yourself.
- The first part of making the drives themselves is by crafting a Storage Component. If you only have enough materials to make 1 ME Chest then we recommend making 3 1k ME Storage Components, then using those to make a 4k ME Storage Component.
- Craft your ME Storage Component together with an
ME Storage Housing to get the final ME Storage Cell, and get the Better Than Chests achievement. You can put Storage Cells in the crafting grid to seperate the Storage Component from the Storage Housing, but this will erase all data stored on the drive.
- You can finally take your ME Storage Cell and place it in your ME Chest or ME Drive. If you're using an ME Drive you'll need to place your own Terminal on the ME Cable to be able to access the contents on the drive. You can now place items into your virtual storage.
- You can upgrade your ME Terminal into an
ME Crafting Terminal, and you get the Much (Bigger) Table achievement. This does what you think it does, it enables crafting while your accessing the Terminal.
