The standard Buildcraft Tank can be used to hold liquids. It holds 16 Buckets worth. Add more Tanks on top to increase the capacity. To input liquids either route a Fluid Pipe into it or Right-Click it with a Bucket or other liquid-storing container. To get liquids out either Right-Click with an empty bucket or container, or use a Redstone Engine and Wooden Fluid Pipe to extract liquids from it.

Explains most of it:

Used to rotate Buildcraft machines. That's its only purpose.

Mining Well

When powered, the Mining Well will mine all the blocks diectly beneath it until it reahes bedrock. It will put the blocks it mines into a connected adjacent pipe. If no pipe is connected it will just pop the item into the world.

Pump

Tank Bucket Tank

The Pump is used to collect liquids from the world and insert it into your Fluid Pipe network. Place the Pump over any pool of liquid, then connect some power to it and some Fluid Pipes. The Pump will send down some spigot thing to collect the liquid. Most liquids such as Lava and Oil, are finite in size, meaning the liquid pool will shrink in size as the Pump puts it into your pipe network. However, Water source blocks can regenerate themselves so you can have an infinite water source.

Flood Gate

Any liquid that gets piped into this block will appear in the world directly below this block. It is best to place this block over a pit or some other enclosed space. If the bottom of the pit is already filled up with liquid, the Flood Gate will then start filling up the next level.

Landmark

Redstone Torch

Landmarks are used to define a volume in the world for Buildcraft machines to work on. Landmarks act as the corners of the shape or volume you want to define. To help you align your Landmarks, place a Redstone torch next to one and 6 blue lines will shoot out in all directions. Once your Landmarks are aligned, Right-Click a Landmark with an empty hand, and a red box will appear. It takes a minimum of 3 Landmarks to define a 2-dimensional shape, and a minimum of 4 Landmarks to define a 3-dimensional volume.

Filler

Dandelion Yellow Crafting Table Dandelion Yellow
Gold Gear Chest Gold Gear

Used to fill up a set volume with blocks. First define your volume using Landmarks and right-Click them so the red lines appear and you know for sure they are aligned. Place the Filler next to one of these red lines, and the volume will be set, and the Landmarks will pop off from where you placed them. Now give the Filler some of the material you wish to fill the volume with, and set the fill design, which could be anything from a cylinder, pyramid, stairs, or just plain fill. The final step is to give it some power and it will run.

Refinery

Buildcraft spawns Oil pools in the Overworld. Collect the Oil using either Buckets or a Pump. The Refinery is used to convert Oil into Fuel, which is more a efficient liquid fuel than Oil is. This machine requires power to operate.

Quarry

The mother of all mining tools. This is probably the only reason anyone would ever play with the Buildcraft mod. First define a 2-dimensional area using Landmarks. Place the Quarry next to the red line which appears after Right-Clicking the Landmark. The Quarry will mine all blocks in the area straight down to bedrock, and place the items into an adjacent pipe. The Quarry requires power to operate.
